Course Description

This course provides piano teachers with all the necessary knowledge and skills for teaching online private lessons and group classes. This course is organized into five modules, each with approximately two hours of learning content, for a course total of ten hours. The titles, objectives, and learning minutes are listed below for each module. The content is a dynamic variety of short video lectures, articles, tip sheets, video demonstrations, and resource lists.

Module 1: Setting Up the Online Studio, 2 hours, 14 minutes
Sessions #1-5

  • Introduction to the formats, approaches, benefits, and challenges of online lessons
  • How to setup your studio for synchronous and asynchronous teaching
  • Add additional equipment for more creative teaching approaches
  • Establish good habits for physical wellness in online teaching

Module 2: Getting Ready to Teach, 1 Hour, 58 Minutes

  • Prepare your students for their online lessons
  • Schedule, organize, and plan for your lessons
  • Develop specific teaching approaches for online teaching
  • Strategize your approach for making videos

Module 3: Elementary Students and Students with Special Needs, 2 hours, 6 minutes

  • Explore principles and strategies for elementary students
  • Apply specific teaching strategies for elementary students
  • Observe online lesson of elementary students
  • Explore principles and strategies for students with special needs

Module 4: Intermediate, Advanced, and Adult Students, 2 hours, 15 minutes

  • Develop an ideal mindset and approach for adult learners

Module 5: Group Instruction and Performance Opportunities, 1 hour, 42 minutes

  • Explore asynchronous course work, studio classes, and blended masterclasses
  • Identify best practices, common formats, and creative projects for online recitals
